Welcome to the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative’s (SIGBI) Safe Spaces Training. You are here because your organization has made a commitment to participate in SIGBI’s Safe Spaces Certification Program. The program was developed to address the need among members of the LGBTQAI+ community to know that the businesses, organizations, retail outlets, entertainment venues and public areas they patronize are spaces where they can safely express who they truly are.
Your completion of this two-part training program is one of the ten (10) criteria our program has established for an organization to be able to call itself a SIGBI-certified Safe Space. The training consists of two modules, each of which should take
you 15-20 minutes to complete.
Module 1: The Importance of Safe Spaces covers what safe spaces are, why they are needed, how they fit into the larger context of an inclusive culture, and the role they play in helping to rewrite entrenched biased narratives about the LGBTQIA+ community.
Module 2: Let’s Talk About Gender Identity discusses how knowledge and appropriate use oflanguage related to gender identity helps create and sustain a workplace that is welcoming and safe for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
At the end of each module, you will find links to resources that provide you with the option to take more time to explore several of the topics discussed in the training. Use of this training platform is very straightforward. But, should you need it, we have also provided a quick tutorial titled How to Use SIGBI e-Learning that demonstrates how to navigate your way around the platform and training modules.
We at SIGBI are delighted you’re here. We hope you find this training an informative overview of the issues faced by members of the LGBTQIA+ community and that it inspires you to learn more about how you can contribute to making your workplace and every space one in which everyone feels safe to be their true selves.
